Hello friends and welcome to Pitz Quattrone’s website. Pitz's life and in turn, career, revolves around the Didgeridoo. The Didgeridoo or Yidaki, as it is properly called in native Australia, is the world’s oldest musical instrument dating back at least 40,000 years. Some experts say it’s as old as 100,000 years. The Yidaki comes from Northern Australia, east of the city of Darwin in an area called Arnhemland. Traditionally it is played around the fire accompanying ancient stories. The Yidaki player imitates sounds that are in the story, bringing the words to life.
Pitz was first attracted to the Didgeridoo by its unmistakable sound. The more he found out about its history and cultural significance, the more he felt connected to the Didgeridoo. Performing with the Didgeridoo and passing on what he has learned to date about the instrument, has become one of Pitz’s lifelong missions. Another mission is to showcase the Didgeridoo in as many musical settings as possible to demonstrate its sonic versatility. Pitz believes the Didgeridoo is the most musically flexible instrument and can be a critical component of any type of music on earth.
